The mission of the Clay County (SD) Historical Society is to unite individuals interested in the history and prehistory of Clay County and its surrounding areas.
This is achieved through:
- Preserving materials and records while ensuring they are accessible for research and reference.
- Sharing historical knowledge through publications, newspaper articles, lectures, discussions, and the CCHS newsletter.
- Offering programs that focus on Clay County’s history and families for both members and the public.
- Supporting the maintenance of the Austin-Whittemore House, the Society’s headquarters, through memberships, donations, and fundraising efforts.
- Providing genealogical and historical information to those seeking it.
